Soccer Academy

Stony Brook  Academy
The Stony Brook  Academy is a three year program focusing on the skill development of young soccer players. The Academy is open to U9, U10 and U11 players for the 2009-2010 soccer year, and participants are selected through tryouts.

The Academy creates an environment that gives children a chance to develop a passion for soccer while developing the skills necessary to become a successful player. The Academy is concerned about players performance, not the results of games. It will give young players the opportunity to be creative, to express themselves and to bring their own personalities to the sport.

The ages of 8 to 11 are considered the time when young players are most able to master the technical skills of soccer. The Academy will follow a set curriculum to be sure these skills will be learned before moving on. Individual strengths and weaknesses will be identified, and each Academy member will be given directed attention.

The Club understands that soccer skills are just one part of helping to develop a complete player. In the Academy we will teach some of the virtues that are admirable, not only in a young soccer player, but in adult life as well. Those virtues include sportsmanship, grace under pressure, determination, respect for an opponent, cooperation, self-confidence and the ability to pull up extra reserves under difficult circumstances.

The Academy is directed by Mark Nash.   If you have further questions please contact us at sbta@stonybrooksoccer.com or mlnash73@aol.com.
