Stony Brook Soccer Club to become affiliate of New York Surf SC

NEW YORK, NY October 25, 2016 – Stony Brook Soccer Club is delighted to announce that it is affiliating with New York Surf Soccer Club, one of the leading Premier soccer clubs in the New York metropolitan region.   An informational session will be held on November 15 at 8:00 PM at the William Sidney Mount School auditorium where additional details of the affiliation will be shared with all of Stony Brook’s existing parents and players.

The affiliation with NY Surf will afford all of Stony Brook SC’s boys and girls players, regardless of team or level, the opportunity to train and work with some of the most accredited, well-known and dynamic coaches in the Northeast to supplement the training that they receive from their existing Stony Brook travel team.  NY Surf’s coaching leadership includes several college head coaches, including Brendan Faherty, Head Coach of Stony Brook University’s Division I Women’s Soccer program; Brooke DeRosa, Head Coach of Adelphi University’s Division II Women’s Soccer program; Kim Wyant, Head Coach of NYU’s Men’s soccer program; Jess Clinton, Head Coach of Fordham University’s Division I Women’s soccer program and Jon Feinstein Head Coach of Mercy College’s Division II Women’s soccer program.

Stony Brook SC has a long tradition of providing excellent soccer programming to its boys and girls soccer players across all ages and skill levels.  Sue Ryan, a true trailblazer in U.S. soccer and one of the leading soccer minds in the country, has been integral in providing this leading player development experience, will expand her role and will serve as Head of the new “NY Surf Juniors” program, NY Surf’s new youth player development program, which will be the leading youth player development program in the New York metro region.  Additional details on NY Surf Juniors will be announced shortly.

For Stony Brook SC players who have aspirations of playing college or even at a professional level, the NY Surf pathway will provide those players with unique opportunities to participate in high level events such as CASL, Disney Cup, Jefferson Cup and the PDA College Showcase, as well as the San Diego Surf Cup.  The affiliation will also provide high caliber players the opportunity to participate in unique programs that are available to NY Surf through its relationship with San Diego Surf, including the Surf Select program, the Surf College Placement Office and its unique partnership with Manchester City F.C.

Commenting on the affiliation, Stony Brook SC Director of Coaching Mark Nash said, "New York Surf was an obvious choice as a partner for our soccer club given the current state of the landscape on Long Island today.  The vision demonstrated by NY Surf is an exciting one and it is important that we are aligned with a committed and forward thinking organization at the front end, so current and future generation of players will benefit years down the road, and encompass all of the capabilities of all our players, at whatever level they are playing.  As a club, we have a great track record of developing talent across our Boys and Girls program, but we want to continually improve our player experience across all levels of our club.   New York Surf brings our players the opportunity to train and play at a higher level, but still remain at in the Stony Brook SC family.  The affiliation will also provide our travel coaches with access and exposure to the full NY Surf curriculum, which is heavily influenced by the world renowned Manchester City Academy.  Providing our travel coaches with enhanced curriculum structure and player development tools will help strengthen our players’ capabilities and overall soccer experience within our club.  This education will be supplemented by workshops and seminars, which will mean that we can deliver the best possible training sessions on a daily basis."

For more information on this exciting partnership, please come to our meeting on November 15th.
