Stony Brook Soccer launches first Futsal Academy

Stony Brook Soccer Club is delighted to announce that it will be launching it's first dedicated Futsal program this Winter which will be held at the indoor facility at Stony Brook University.

Lead Clinician will be St.Joesph's College Women's Head Coach Rafael Morais, a native of Brazil which is one of the world's hotbed of Futsal and has produced a whole host of world stars such as Marta, Ronaldinho, Coutinho and Kaka, as well as many other, who all attribute their technical 'edge' to the training and game of Futsal.

Rafael will take the players through an intensive 8 week program teaching players the nuances of the game of Futsal as well as selecting players in the training environment to represent Stony Brook and Long Island at the game of Futsal at State & Regional events.  "The aim of the program is to grow a player's ability to feel more confident with the ball.  The foundation that Futsal provides is the key to that, every player who gets the ball should have a plan, and the ability to make a good decision.  I am excited I get to work with players who want to push their game to the next level and recognize the benefits that Futsal provides."

Director of Coaching Mark Nash added "This program gives us the opportunity to provide all our members a training platform to improve their ability across the club.  The way the game has evolved means players need more time with the ball than ever.  Futsal provides the 'street' game mentality that players need to have an edge over their opponent.  Rafael has a great track record at teaching young players the importance of being able to handle the ball under pressure, so I am hoping our membership takes advantage of this program and allows our players the opportunity to prepare for Spring like never before".
