Girls Coach of the Year – Coach Mark Nash

Mark Nash is a motivator. His enthusiasm for the game is contagious and his coaching and love for his players is palpable. Spend just a little time watching him coach and you will see someone who loves the game now perhaps more than he did when he started at the age of eight as a scrappy center forward who moved on to become a goalie, anchoring his team for a tie in the East Anglican Quarter Final.

His career in coaching began at the age of 15 when he took a he took a job with Pitney Bowes as an assistant to the coach.

At 16 he joined the local men’s team where he excelled and was then asked to join the prestigious Maypole program at the age of 20. Eventually he was called up to play for the Essex Intermediate League with FC Norte.

He earned his coaching badges from the English football association and then moved to the United States to begin as a coach for Stony Brook in 2004.

Mark has gone on to receive his NSCAA and advanced diplomas in coaching and is currently the directory for the Academy program. In 2009 received the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association’s Coach of the Year. After wining four consecutive division titles, his team, Stony Brook Academy was invited the following summer to travel back to his native England to play in the coveted Umbro Cup.

The dedication and tireless work ethic that Mark embodies has taught the young women of Stony Brook Academy the skills they need to help them to become a powerhouse in club soccer.

Congratulations Mark on being awarded Girls Travel Coach of the year.

Girls Most Improved Team  -   Girls U-14    Stony Brook Academy

The definition of improvement reads; something that has been made enhanced, Progress in development. When a team comes together and improves as a whole it is something special. As a team improves each aspect of the team improves from player to player from player to coach from team to everyone else they play. No team has met this challenge more than the Girls U-14 Elite.

This past season has seen the Stony Brook U-14 elite grow as a team on and off the field. Their dedication to each other to become the best they can be for themselves, the coach, and the team has made them grow into one of the best U-14 girls teams in Long Island Junior Soccer.

Coach Dan Balzan has instilled the work ethic and effort it takes to improve as they have. At this time we would like to congratulate the Girls U-14 elite for winning the Girls Most improved Travel team of the year.
